Yeah you're totally right, I've heard other people describe it as the honeycomb shape as well...

The 'pixels' are just the static... the tiny dots that everyone sees when you turn the lights off before your eyes adjust to the dark.

It's interesting you mention the darkness between the green lines in the lattice...

I've never thought about it. I've never pondered the boundaries of the lattice and why it's even that shape.
