I've met a lot of recovering individuals who seem content to make a lifelong career of dwelling on their past trauma instead of getting over it and moving on. While recovery may be a lifelong process, it just seems to me like they're stuck in that "recovering" rut. The point of recovery, in my opinion, is to reach a stage where you can let it go. That's why I'm not all that interested in focusing on trauma these many years down the road. At my age, there's very little that can happen to undo the way my personality has developed. It would also take too much energy to keep the anger and resentment going for this long. That's energy I'd rather expend on doing something useful.
