Here's my theory.
Trix became gravely ill and is confined to a hospital. That would why she isn't around as much, and why she's on mobile instead of using a real computer. She believed she would recover quickly and return to business as usual very soon, so she kept it under wraps.
At some point, she found out she was sicker than she thought, and wouldn't be able to continue running the board. It was then she decided the designated replacement sysop needed to take over.
Whether Trix came up with the idea or the new sysop hatched the plan on his own, it was decided that he would assume her online persona and moniker, presumably to keep the trademark going. Sort of like how the person writing as "Dear Abby" isn't the same person as the one who started the column.
What he didn't count on, of course, is that the long-time posters know Trix's style pretty well, and would eventually catch on to the fact that he wasn't really her. He's in a pickle now, and will have to come clean lest he unwittingly destroy the vast online empire that Trix worked so hard to build in her all-too-short lifetime.
So that's what we're waiting on now.
