the 1800s were weird as shit. bunch of guys runnin around an untamed land in 3 piece suits. i don't get it. traveling through swamps, mountains, deserts, jungles... in fancy suits. am i the only one that doesn't make sense to? there's been a long standing thing, 1 oz of gold will buy you a pretty decent suit. that's a non trivial amount of money, and these guys were running around outside wearing them? how many suits did they go through? how much time was spent cleaning and repairing their fancy suits?

seems to me they'd be all sweaty and uncomfortable wearing shit like that, to say nothing of damaging stuff made from limited resources.
