I began using Instagram because of "peer pressure" The photography group I am a part of uses Instagram to communicate themes, and offer encouragement to the users. And if you did not participate, it was as if you and your images do not exist. And so I joined about 1.5 years ago.
The thing that annoys me the most is being unwitting "collateral damage" from the people who use it strictly for generating followers numbers to entice advertisers. And so their bots go around following you and following you within three days. Most of these unsolicited followers have concerns that have absolutely NOTHING to do with the overall theme of your instagram portfolio. I get followed by people hawking makeup and real estate on a regular basis. It is patently obvious they have not looked at ONE image you have made, and realize what you photograph has NOTHING to do with what they are hawking.
