Cedar wood repels moths and doesn't rot, so it's good for preserving things.

There was an old hymn we sang in the Baptist church that goes, "There is power, power, wonder working power in the blood of the Lamb." It seems to harken back to the pre-Christian days of animal sacrifices.

In medieval medicine, blood was one of the bodily fluids or humors corresponding to the four elements.
