Notice they keep saying it produces images of what you perceive, not what you see. I'll give you an example of why the distinction is important. As we saw at the Kavanaugh hearings, a guy can be convicted of sexual harassment in the court of public opinion based on how the alleged victim "perceives" an incident rather than based on proven facts. This, incidentally, is how the typical corporate HR department works, and how the left wants our criminal justice system to work.
There's a slob walking around out there somewhere whose face matches the generic face reconstructed by this EEG contraption. The poor fucker is going to get arrested every time he turns around when a witness is hooked up to the machine and it spews out a picture of his face.
