The border wall GoFundMe raised nearly $11 million in 4 days. That has to be some kind of crowdfunding record.
Yesterday, Styx explained some of the reasons why the GoFundMe won't get the wall built. (He made this video early in the morning, before the House approved $5.7 billion in spending.)
He's right as far as he goes, but I think he missed the point of the GoFundMe, which was to light a fire under some asses in Congress.
Legal paperwork has been drawn up to make sure the donations either go directly to building the wall without the IRS taking a big chunk, or refunded otherwise. At least one Republican in Congress is working on that. Since the $5.7 billion approved by the House yesterday stands a good chance of passing in the Senate, it seems likely to me that the GoFundMe donations will be added to the money approved by Congress.
