A different take on Patreon. This is from 2 years ago, before the purge started.
This YouTuber won't do crowdfunding because his videos don't cost that much to make, and because patronage divides the fan base into the haves and have-nots, with the former getting preferential treatment. It also puts pressure on the creator to produce premium content for patrons.
The commenters had some additional reasons not to use Patreon:
Some creators blow the money on frivolous things rather than using it to improve the quality of their videos.
Patronage should be tied to tangible products, not online content. This is more or less what Trix has been saying all along.
