That's what happened with me. In fact, I think I was first introduced to forums by people I orginally met in chatrooms.

Tell me more about this format. I'm trying to come up with an idea for a program that combines aspects of forums, blogs, and yes, even a social media style feed or timeline. But I want to put a novel spin on it rather than duplicate what's already out there. And I want to specifically avoid having it morph into a vast centralized monstrosity like Faecesbook and Twatter. I want to create something that individuals or small groups can easily install and use on their own websites.
