People care because he's so damn likable and interesting and funny.
There's a lot of value provided to the world through this channel...
I love the Internet because there's a group of viewers and supporters for EVERYONE who is willing to make content, share themselves, provide entertainment, etc.
People love these YouTube/internet personalities because they make them feel less alone. It's company and entertainment, and it's normal to want to give back.
There's a lot of generosity in the online community, and I have my issues with YouTube, but there are a lot of giving and supportive people there. It's just the truth. It's the people who make the platform. Not the corporate interests. YouTube would do well to remember that, but it seems like they just never do.
