The fucked up thing about Slab City is that nowadays it's the only place in the US you're allowed to live for free indefinitely on land you don't own... and most of the country used to operate in a similar fashion in the days of the wild west. These people at Slab City are mainly people who got totally fucked by the system and can't afford to live anymore. That actually brings them back to the roots of humanity which is all about survival in nature. It's sad that this kind of living (in nature etc.) isn't simply "the norm" and that instead the only people who are living this way are mostly hard luck stories.
