More or less. There are still good acts like the Black Keys and Beth Orton, but the soul is completely gone out of anything you hear on corporate channels now.


I used to wish I could afford a vintage TR-808 rhythm composer. They didn't sell well when they were being made in the early 80s, but they became extremely popular and sought after later on.

Roland and Behringer both rolled out modern revivals of the TR-808 recently, to the delight of many musicians.


Unfortunately, hearing poorly composed TR-808 rhythm tracks on every goddamned song on the radio (along with whiny AutoTune'd vocals by talentless fuckwits who can't sing) has killed my enthusiasm for it. I'll stick with my beat-to-hell Casio RZ-1 and its lo-fi drum samples.
