Devil’s advocate: our culture idolizes thinness. Thin is beautiful therefore “fatness” is disliked.
Thinness is associated with haute couture, art and the good life. Fatness is associated with lack of education and poverty. Should one find themselves fat in a thin obsessed culture, can we not sympathize with the cognitive dissonance they probably endure? What would you say to yourself if you were fat in a thin culture?
Personally, I am pretty against fatness and yes, I don’t think it happens overnight and yes, for many it is a lifestyle that gets them there. Sort of like how a drunk gets a bloated face, it’s a side effect of what they take in. How do we deal with fatness in a kinder, gentler nation?!
