Contact the Movie and Mathew...
#1
Released in 1997 these are the words from Palmer Joss (Mathew's Character)

"Is the world fundamentally a better place because of science and technology? We shop at home, we surf the Web... at the same time, we feel emptier, lonelier and more cut off from each other than at any other time in human history..."

I'm sure there's a very intelligent person that can dispute this. Right?

Personally from what I know of him (he's kinda a local with a bad rep) ;
he seems like a scumbag but has been in a plethora of great movies.
I'll never forget that line he read in the movie "Contact."

Surely someone can dispute his words and make that writer seem so noob for not knowing how totally awesome modern technology has made society!

So he's had his hand in the "space movies" cookie jar since that far back huh? Strange.

Yeah, NASA in in TX too. Strange. You know what's even stranger?

Obvious disregard for the meat of thread's question, statement and request to nullify or counter it.

Not by you personally (MO) but there's no sane logic to counter the reality we have today and
exactly the effects it's having as were described in a sci-fi love movie.

Every now and then, writers through out gems but usually it's pearls to swine.

People are just statistically average; doesn't make them any more or any less better than "lofty minded"
individuals. Trust me; I'm an elitist. I know.

Pretty sad movie. She never learns... even when she goes "cosmic"

That's a shame. I always thought he was one of the few good guys left
in Hollywood. Never heard anything bad about him, from the tabloids and
such. Well, that's disheartening.

I used to feel the same about Johnny Depp. Thought he was one of the few
decent folks left in a sewer society [Hollywood] but come to find out, he's
not. His association with Hunter S. Thompson raised my eyebrows a little
but when I more recently found out he was an admirer of Alan Ginsberg,
the 60's beat poet AND NAMBLA SUPPORTER, I had to just wash my hands
of the guy. Shame too, he's made a lot of good movies. Oh well.

Funny little story. Way back when South Park did that NAMBLA spoof episode
I thought it was hilarious, gross but hilarious. Come to find out, a few short years
later [may have actually been months, or even weeks, can't remember] I did a
Yahoo search [you know this was way back, it was before Google!] and what the
fuck did I see??? This NAMBLA bullshit was REAL!! I couldn't believe it. I was seriously
outraged in my mind, couldn't even begin to understand how something THAT SICK
could be allowed to exist. Why?? Dude, fuck man. That's worse than asking for trouble!!

I still to this day can't understand how they're allowed to be a thing. I mean, yeah, I get
it, the power structure is riddled with child-abusers, so there's that. But damn man, you'd
think some vigilante justice squads would've shut them down by now. Maybe they have, I
don't keep up with their operating status, but they need to be shut down and locked up!
