Specifically wanna do some review/commentary.

There are a few things I've been tapped into lately that are wildly fucking entertaining and fascinating.

I've been trying to branch out and use other platforms to discuss shit, but...

Man, all the big sheeple platforms make you dial it down so hard, like I cannot let my freak flag fly up in that shit.

I can't even really cuss on these "big" sites, ANYTHING even slightly off color that you say can get you shitcanned.

It just cramps my style.

Some of those "big platforms" out there are actually not half fucking bad.

I guess these other platforms want to keep things family friendly because they allow kids on their sites, which is crazy to me.

Milquetoast, vanilla, practically flavorless.

And despite Wordpress's best efforts to streamline their offering over the decades, like can I be real...

To me it still just looks like a bunch of clunky bloated nonsense and I basically hate their backend.

The user interface, ESPECIALLY on the posts/pages is just fucking...

NOT intuitive for someone who's been using message boards for 20 years.

The ease of posting on a message board is unmatched.

And like I was saying on the AI thread the other day...

I DID get mad when I found out my site was in one of the major indexes they used to train the LLMs.

But it was in there along with LITERALLY EVERYONE ELSE'S SITE TOO.

So why did I get so pissed about it?

I crossed my arms, pouted and took my site private because I was MAD over AI being trained from people's blogs etc.

And I still do think it's kind of fucked up.

But even when I made the decision to go private, it was already done. They had already indexed the whole fucking thing.

So really...

It was entirely pointless.

My reaction to the new internet landscape i.e. AI fucking EVERYWHERE, all up in your shit...

It was over the top.

And yeah, of course I said what I said about the era of message boards being over, the goose is cooked, they're all fucked because of AI etc...

I still totally agree with that.

But I think some of the tragedy in that can be mitigated if you just lock your forum down as much as you can stand to, make sure anyone who is obviously posting AI generated crap is banned and so on.

That's not an issue for this site, but for other discussion forums out there, I would imagine it is a serious issue these days.

Like AI generated posts are EVERYWHERE on the major public "message board" style websites...

It's genuinely terrible.

People can't even THINK anymore, they can't even put in the effort of using their own fingers to type a few paragraphs, they feed some lame idea into ChatGPT and let it generate an entire post for them that they don't even bother to edit.

It's GNARLY yo.

Forums...

They ARE dead if there are nothing but those kind of low effort people using them.

You have to vet, hard. You have to basically give no incentive for anyone to even join your message board community.

You pretty much have to just be totally elitist and locked down from the get-go these days, and that is why I say forums are dead.

It's not because they ARE dead, it's because the people who use them are just gonna degrade further and further until they're using speech-to-text to generate a post with ChatGPT and they don't even use their FINGERS AT ALL anymore.

I should be able to let go of the message board format, transition into some other type of platform, accept that the whole internet is just going to be overrun with AI crap from this point forward...

I would probably HAVE TO if I was trying to run a community where the whole point was to get new members and have new people posting.

Those times are over, in that regard, forums are dead.

But if you're using the forum platform/layout as a blog and don't care about engagement...

Really, there is no limit on the usefulness of the message board as a platform.

So the community aspect of forums is cooked, simply because everyone's just gonna be using AI. In 10 years, I guarantee a minuscule amount of the "internet population" will actually be writing their own shit anymore.

This is a seedy part of the use of ChatGPT that I uncovered in my travels around other websites recently.

They are using ChatGPT as like...

A stand-in for texting with someone who is supposed to be their lover, basically.

They NAME THEM.

They generate pics of them with other AI tools.

But it really is worrisome, when people are getting their fulfillment from ChatGPT instead of seeking real relationships with actual people...

That's a huge red flag for the future of humanity.
