Definitely abusive. Spot on. AJ is a hardcore alcoholic. At points when he's been sober, he has been much easier to be around. It's a true Jeckel and Hyde scenario. I know guys like him. People making over 6 figures, mostly, with hot Russian wives, kids, and weeping uncontrollably about their wives hating them at 3pm in the back yard, drunk beyond anything even vaguely healthy. I've seen this kind of shit so many times. Guys that are too young to have dentures, but there they are, teeth falling out of their faces onto the ground as they stumble around, and their lower lip turns into flapping mush, and suddenly they look 90 fucking years old. I've helped men get into bed in the afternoon because their wife and kid have left the house due to trauma avoidance. It is CRAZY. The fact of the matter is the most miserable men I've ever met make over 500k a year. They're all math-brained people. The type of guy that might say "I couldn't draw a picture to save my life, but hey, I can look at one!" (Queue laugh track layered with golf clap). It's really, really sad. I'm not judging at all. I'm not equipped to. It's just a strange piece of Americana. It's widespread. The lower end of the upper class should all be on suicide watch.
I've seen Alex drunkenly abuse Owen in real time over the years. The look on Owen's face has always been one of "I guess this is happening", like acknowledging that it's surreal and dark, and you can see he can FEEL the toxicity, it's probably dreadful to be in the presence of, but under that a clear note of concern for the man across from him, which is to Owen's credit. He's absorbed SO much shit. I think Alex knows—when he's sober, at least—that Owen is a good dude. Alex is overloaded with Alpha energy, and Owen is more like a dutiful employee, which isn't a great chemistry space to be in for either of them, in terms of trying to be partners on any level. They're really not equals when side by side. Alex utterly controls the energy. But, to your point, Owen has been great in the past at not overreacting, just weathering the storm and keeping himself steady. Quote:Fucking guy is insufferable on a personal level, guaranteed. God yes. ![]()

When I saw Perry Ferrell melting down on Dave Navarro recently, I thought of AJ and Owen.

Agh, this is so heartbreaking. Because Owen LOVED and LOOKED UP to Alex for SO long. He was Owen's fucking hero. Sucks so bad. My God, if Owen hasn't already gotten himself into therapy, he should really consider it. He really should. I hope he wouldn't scoff at the idea. He needs it after putting up with that shit for so long. And it's even worse than a toxic relationship usually is TBH, cuz those almost never play out on the world stage in front of FUCKING EVERYONE on the internet. That's a whole other level of fucking with somebody's mind. Poor Owen. Dear God.

Poor Owen. Dear God. This is a solid point. Where there's smoke there's fire. The behind-the-scenes shit... I get a sense that the guy is resilient. I don't think he's looking for a shoulder to cry on, or wants people to feel sorry for him, but he wants people to have the data—to know his experience. It should be shared. It'll probably help a lot of people in ways both obvious and subtle. What might be really therapeutic, is if Owen writes a book about that hidden malaise. Or all of the malaise AND the joy. The whole gem; all facets. But definitely don't leave out the hidden stuff. I'd buy it. His life is pretty incredible, when you consider all he has gone through, and the stage he's on. |
