She might be about to leave soon. That's what it kinda seems like.

Of course now that I've called it out, it probably won't happen.

Betty White's 100th birthday is today...

I think it's somewhat sad that she died just a few weeks short of being able to celebrate that milestone.

Of course where she is now, she definitely doesn't care about the human constraints of time... but still.

I erased the section where she wrote my name, but there is the autograph photo.

Really cool...

I'd forgotten I chose that photo of her with the halo...

I thought it was iconic when I saw it and I knew that had to be the one.

Some celebs are uppity and won't sign a photo unless it's taken by a specific (copyright cleared) photographer...

Loretta Lynn was one of those a-holes.

She had no class about the way she informed autograph-hopefuls about it, that's what really pissed me off about her.

The classy ones who don't have a chip on their shoulder simply send you a photograph they mass print out specifically for that purpose...

Sometimes they sign it for real, sometimes it's auto-pen. I never go for auto-pens, if I read a celeb only does auto-pens or pre-prints, I don't bother.

But there have been a few I've gotten back that were mass printed photos that were signed with a real pen/marker (you can tell by view angle and other methods).

One of them was Rod Stewart...

His autograph is legendary.

So they don't always have to be a-holes about it, in fact it's sorta rare that they are.

You can tell autopen from real pen and from pre-printed of course.

I love collecting autographs, haven't done it in a few years though.

Of course the ultimate is when they sign your name, like Ms. Betty White did.

They do it for a few reasons...

First of all, if your unique name is on it, it's less likely to sell on eBay or be mass printed in order to sell in general.

Secondly, they simply do it to make it special.

You can tell when you get it back how much energy was put into it.

My favorite autograph I've ever received was probably by Henry Winkler/Fonzi...

He was like my second childhood crush, literally I was like 5 years old or something.

Anyway, he signed it with one of his catchphrases AND wrote my name on it...

It was totally amazing.

And these people really do sign their own autographs, there have only been a few I did signature comparisons on and concluded it was a stand-in (secretary, etc.) who signed it instead.

And you could argue that their stand-ins just practice their signatures until they're experts, but no...

Trust me, when you get the autograph back and hold it in your hand, you just know.

In combination with the other ways you check an autograph for legitimacy, you can just feel it.

You can feel the ones who really cared, and the ones who were just like "Meh another fkn autograph, *scribble"...

I've gotten my fair share of those too! LOL!

That's how I can tell when a celeb is a true a-hole in real life too and it ain't just a stereotype or something!

Some of the best autographs I ever got back were from Jason Lee, who played Earl in "My Name Is Earl" (2005).

Really amazing, he cares a lot about his fans. I did make it clear that those autographs were for my niece/nephew (huge fans of the show as kids) though, but he made sure to include an extra signed photo for me. It was really beautiful man.

i'm glad that autographs are fading away and pictures with someone is the new thing. i can do pictures with someone, but i ain't writin shit! i hate paperwork. i don't even want to sign any contracts anymore, just let me authenticate with metamask or some shit.

the way i see it, with anyone i'd consider a celebrity that i like, i wouldn't try to get something from them. i would instead just relay my gratitude and perhaps try to get them to laugh or something like that. but i've always been a weirdo.

Yeah like...

For me I guess it's vanity.

I am an extreme pure and total perfectionist when it comes to my own image (photo, not necessarily video)...

It takes like 50 pics to get one I consider good enough.

You've got one chance in a celeb selfie...

What if it's not a good pic of either one of you? Screw that. No way.
