That song isn't legit retrowave on any level, that's like pure synthwave but it's on this retrowave channel sooo.

That said, they (Vosto) have made this song the EVER SO SLIGHTEST too lengthy.
You guys know I am a staunch critic, working since 2012 to critique this genre of music...
I know what I'm talking about when it comes to vocal critiques.
But I also know what I'm talking about when it comes to actual song production.
I won't name any names, but I have done a fair bit work with re-edits and have started more than one trend in the retrowave/synth genre...
As the creator of certain trends, I am telling you, it's a touch too slow. Only a touch... ;)
And some of the sparkly lil sounds circa 4:00 are lovely indeed but they sound like they're just tossed in at original pitch/speed so it's just like...

I mean it's great but it was tweaked wrong on a few different levels.
Now don't get me wrong, it's out there...

It is what it is...
And it's great.
It can be worked with, but I don't think the polished "twinkliness" of those sounds near the end will ever be perfect.
Which is fine, maybe it would sound good, I dunno.
I'm kinda busy right now so it's not like I'm gonna make any attempt at an edited version. If it was a true retrowave song, perhaps I would have.
Like I said, non-retrowave songs are fine on retrowave channels just as long as they're like above average with no words.
That's the basic rule... so that song did pass with flying colors, it's just that I'd recommend they avoid it altogether.
Maybe just partner up with a synthwave channel but don't cross play genres on each others' streams...
If you make a thumbnail that looks retrowave enough but just call it synthwave instead, people will still click out of curiosity.

Which actually just fosters laziness in me, but let's be honest, the genre is getting a lot of unworthy submissions into it these days on the retrowave front...
As viewed thru the lens of the retrowave genre, a lot of these songs are technically synthwave.
You can't just add in one retrowave effect and call it retrowave.
If it is primarily synthwave, keep it off the retrowave channels.
But I will say this...
Basically ALL OF these songs need to be slowed to like 0.85.
Some are good as is but I think most synthwave needs to be edited.
That's just always been my opinion.
The retrowave genre doesn't have this problem as much...
Which it's why it just sucks and is wrong to add in these synthwave songs.
I guess I respect ThePrimeThanatos for being a retrowave supporting alternative to the NewRetrowave channel...
But I am sure they're really just run by the same people.
I mean in general, most of their mixes are good but some really just suck all the balls.
There seems to be a lot more to critique in the synthwave genre than in the retrowave genre...
I don't really have time for it so I am just gonna try to stick to commenting only on retrowave.

I clicked over into this and it was already set to 0.85 speed and it sounds pretty amazing.
A lot of these songs are just too fast.

The 80's, specifically the southeast stemming from the "new wave" that hit not just music, but fashion
initiated the color scheme of the whole "retrowave" aesthetics. It did come out of Miami mostly, the
colors were perpetuated non stop by the show Miami Vice.
I enjoyed watching Miami Vice sometimes.
I didn't know Miami Vice was filmed in the early 80s, that's crazy.
I thought it was like 1988ish at the earliest.
But that it only went on for like 3 seasons.
So like 1988 to 1991 or something.
Yeah I really do hate to say it but so many of these synthwave songs are still like not the best even on 0.85 and I just cannot.
I have high standards and a lot of those songs just don't truly meet them.
Like unless I was MEGGGAAA bored with EVERYTHINGGGG, then I might listen to a total synthwave ("retro electro", lmfao) mix with no critique necessary and just accept it for what it is.
Can't imagine that ever happening though.
