You have to shut your machine down and let it rest for about half an hour.
Then, using a can of compressed air, blow/shoot quick bursts of air into all
the holes, nooks and cranny's. You'll be surprized at how much black dust
comes out. Especially if you've never done it before.
It's gotta be the right stuff though, made for computers. It'll come with a super
thin clear plastic straw to stick into the nozzle, like WD-40.
Yeah I found some from Office Max, it has "electronics" on the label. I will totally do this sometime within the next month or two...

Is this thread a metaphor? I'm seeing components of life in this thing vs. thoughts on a physical machine. js.
Maybe it's subconscious or just being you're just a genius or I'm way too imaginative.
Your "pc" definitely needs a LOT of taking care of.
It may be "dusty" but it's quite powerful...
All of us here want to help...
I'd stick some really thick, fast ram in your slots if you have any left just to help your other programs out a little.

My favorite app for testing ram to make sure it's running well is called "sticky socks."

I remember an old laptop that would rev up on me all the time. A friend of mine
told me it could be from too much "background" activity. Also, CPU strain if I was
running several things at once [ex. Windows, Flash Player, Audacity, whatever else]
and if there were several other things running in the background, shit that you're not
even currently using or aware of, that can kick up the fans. But that laptop was on the
old side, even back then, so there were several factors going on.

If it was old, then it had McAfee AV which was probably about 938 running background processes and sucks ass.
You actually need a 3rd party tool to get all their crap off your box.
Laptops kinda suck; phones and tablets are seeming to replace them. Not as easy to work on and
like you mentioned, not great at cooling hence the "cooling" mats they make for them.
I like the portability but the "feel" of the little laptop keyboard is gross for some reason.
I swear they make the power cord connections specifically crappy and designed to break for repeat business.
Failing hard drives also can get noisy.

Yeah. I'd never own another laptop OR PC.
I'm not Team Apple [wretched company] but for what I need
it for [Logic Pro] it works and this iMac has never given me any
issues, no viruses or anything hinky. I'm a simpletard. I find something
that works, I like to stick with it. Less time learning new shit. Old dog syndrome, haha.

Logic pro is pretty cool, industry standard and all but there's a lot of DAWs that can go head to head with Logic pro imo.
True about not fixing something if it's not broken. If logicpro is your go to, why learn something else when you've already got a great
DAW?
Macs can also run MS progs if yours isn't too old and has the intel processor. Not sure if I'm saying it correctly but you know what I mean.
When apple decided to let people run windows on macs.

I just blew it out with an industrial sized air compressor.
I was surprised how dusty it really was...
Couldn't tell by looking at it alone, though there was a fine blanket of dust all over the inside.
But that really needed to be done and the whole thing just makes me wish I understood more about the actual hardware aspect of computers.

IMO there's just not enough time in life to learn about ALL the things, so at some point you gotta start picking and choosing.

You can FEEL your computer?
You know like...
If the poor thing is working too hard to do something and the fans are all loud, it kinda pains you a little bit? Yes, the mind needs to be cooled by cerebral spinal fluid, it gets hot with all that heavy computation on the MOboard.
zooooooooooooom out. Yes. my computer is in harmony, fans are silent as ordered, no clickety-clack from the secondary hdd
Proper cable management for maximum air flow, MAGNETIC dust filters in place. She's a beauty, she's mah behbeh.

There's not much inside a computer case.
1. Power supply aka PSU
2. Processor(s) aka CPU
3. Graphics chip or card aka GPU
4. Motherboard, aka MObo
5. Random Access Memory aka RAM
6. Data storage by either Solid State Drives aka SSD or optical Hard Dick Drives aka HDD
7. CPU cooler and Fan
8. USB Hub Control for functions like power, on off lights, drive access lights
9. Lots of fans (adoring ones at that).
10. Cables coming to the MObo to various of the above listed components
11. You ( I know you can fit in there, let's be honest.)

I will say this though...
In case anyone finds this thread looking for info about how to clean your computer with an air compressor...
You need to spray the air at nothing for a while before you point it at your computer...
The hoses get moisture in them and a fair bit of moisture will come out when you first turn it on.
You gotta spray it at your skin for a while so you can feel whether or not there's any moisture.
I am not saying the best way to do this is to use a shop air compressor.
That's just what I did.
And I did it because canned air is retardedly expensive...
Why am I going to buy canned air when I have a huge air compressor instead??
I am just saying...
For me, this was the answer. If you don't have a shop air compressor then canned air is probably the solution.
For anybody who does have a shop air compressor or knows someone who does...
Just remember to run it for a while before you actually use it to blow the dust out because there will be moisture...
Test it on your skin first, spray it on yourself and then walk away for a minute so you can feel if there's moisture on your skin.
You'll be able to tell. But yeah I mean, you just use air on it willy-nilly and you're gonna end up with moisture coated computer insides.
To be fair I'm sure the moisture is never entirely out of it.
You could also do what these guys did...
A leaf blower! ROFL!

I ain't saying I did it right...
I'm just saying I did it.
And it seems to be fine.
I monitor the temps it's running at and it seems to be running cooler now.
Still not loving the load temps...
But whatevs.
