Sometime between 1982 and 1984, a German kid was making mixtapes of songs he recorded from the radio. He kept lists of the band names and song titles on each tape, but a few were unknown. All except one of the songs were eventually identified.

Around 2004, his sister hit the Internet message boards for help finding the name of the band and the song. While many promising leads have turned up over the ensuing 16 years, the song and band remain unidentified.

Wow, interesting. I wonder how many songs like this there are out there.

There was a song I liked when I was 5 years old that I haven't been able to identify till this day. It should've been relatively easy to find, as it was on the radio a lot. Surely it must've made the Hot 100 pop charts. I've been through all of the charts with no luck. For many years, I could remember the melody long after I'd forgotten the lyrics, but even that memory is gone now.

More recently, mistaking Earth, Wind & Fire as the artist of this song from the 80s prevented me from finding it for over 30 years:

Back years ago when Google wasn't so stingy with lyrics (due to copyright I guess), it would have been totally easy to find that song... but alas, I can't find it.
