I used to get all mad at people who call discussion forums "blogs"...

It's a blog in the form of a message board.

That's just straight up what it is.

It's essentially a live-blogging platform...

It is.

The term "content" annoys me more it was coined by some dumb bitch trying to spam fuckers.
I mean if its a video its a video if its a picture game text, fuckin call a spade a spade ffs.

Yeah I feel the same about the term "content creators"...

All this totally non-personal labeling of groups of people just smells so fucking commie!

I used the term social media in another thread, I can't even believe I did that.
Their mind control has almost gotten to me which is hard.
If I could change the post I would refer to it as internet forums or message boards.
I mean I go back to the first BBS, the term "Vlog" really shits me to, its just a video you can post comments on like a forum.
Internet boards forums messaging systems why does it have to be called all one thing when its all different?
Like people on FB have backup accounts on telegram, but that is not a message board its a live chat group.
Just because they integrate video text live chat into one thing doesn't make them not entirely different things.

A blog is essentially a forum where the owner is the only one able to start threads.

Yeah...

That IS true.

Since other people can start threads here, it isn't TECHNICALLY a straight up blog.

Well, that makes me feel somewhat better.

I believe it actually goes back to a captains log on a ship, just like computing machines are a system so was a ship.
Back before dos or windows when it was all Unix everything had to be text logged what was done to/with systems.
I think even back to card computers, it had to have a written log.
A was interface B was the log C was the code et al.

Yep, it's a Web log. The word was coined by the first blogging site, Blogger.

Or maybe some early Web writer came up with it for their personal site, and the Blogger people saw it and decided to commercialize it.

Wikipedia Wrote:The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger on December 17, 1997. The short form, "blog", was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999. Shortly thereafter, Evan Williams at Pyra Labs used "blog" as both a noun and verb ("to blog", meaning "to edit one's weblog or to post to one's weblog") and devised the term "blogger" in connection with Pyra Labs' Blogger product, leading to the popularization of the terms.

I'm impressed that they actually have those facts up there like that...

I think tracking down the use of original terms on the net today would be just about impossible.

I'm honored to have been part of this shitshow called the internet...

I don't regret a minute I've spent on it, and it's been a pleasure to be alive during this time.

I don't take it for granted, this global connectivity is invaluable.

Evan Williams is also the name of a Kentucky bourbon whiskey. Coincidence? I think not.

A lot of these things evolved from pre-Web dialup BBSes. The "modem users," as they called themselves, were a fairly tight-knit community, and a lot of people and their contributions became well-known on the networks.

The early Web was very sparse. It was literally possible to post a list of all the new websites that appeared each month. It's not hard to imagine that this kind of historical information was recorded as it happened.
