These important connections are often referred to as "soul family"...

OK. That makes a lot more sense and is easier to understand. 
So yeah, I think a lot of times we're born into physical Earth body
families that are our Spirit families, at least in part. The term "soul groups"
is how I remember it. And spirits/souls usually migrate in these clusters
and remain connected from the spirit realm into the Earthly realm.
