When the displacement becomes enough to trigger an automatic corrective reaction, that's when EMPs take out all tech and we're back to the stone ages.
I think this will happen first, then ~150 years later a huge asteroid will destroy the surface of the planet. Everything that could prove we were ever here will be incinerated.
