My logic here is that we'll be able to see whether it ever becomes sentient or not, depending on what it buys.
If it's just a straight up glorified calculator, it'll find a way to invest the money and make it multiply.
I don't think AI can become sentient, but I'm just saying, testing it with money would be really interesting.
