Right. It's a little trickier with the 64-bit AMD CPUs that have built-in Radeon R7 cores though. Luckily an unofficial installer containing the Radeon firmware is now available. It used to be a major hassle to get it to work, but now it's just as easy as installing on any other hardware.


Why am I doing this? I decided to go full Linux when I learned that extended support for Windows 7 will end January 2020. I have no intention of staying on the perpetual Windows upgrade treadmill. When my friend gave me a barely used Lenovo AMD64 box with Windows 10 installed yesterday, I saw my chance. I booted the Debian Live DVD to see if there would be any compatibility problems. The only problem I saw was the missing Radeon firmware. I hunted around for a solution and found the aforementioned ISO here:
