I was wrong about Yuzuru Hanyu to a large extent I think... he seems pretty friendly.
He definitely LOOKS smug... but I think it's just a dominating stage presence. A lot of times people who look mean aren't really.
LOL, it doesn't really matter... the guy is an absolute badass and has every reason and right to be a douche if he wants, unlike a lot of people out there who act like douches with absolutely no redeeming qualities to make it okay.

He's one of those K-Pop band lookin' lil dudes and I ain't into that because I'm not a 12 year old girl. ROFLMAO!
But he is absolutely adorable and definitely one of the most talented figure skaters of all time, top 3 for sure.
Eventually he may even be considered #1... it looks like a lot of lists put him there.

He doesn't have any proving left to do when it comes to his talent...
He's already completely shown the world his absolute skill.
I'm not saying he needs to show us anything else to prove he's #1...
I think it's just time and whatnot that I'm considering here...
Like for me, I literally just heard of the guy.
I don't really follow figure skating...
Had no idea he existed.
That's sort of what I'm saying...
Until enough time has passed for everyone to know about you, until enough years have gone by...
It's not really possible to declare someone the greatest of all time.

This thread is just about my favorite figure skaters, not the greatest figure skaters...
Although I do believe Oksana Baiul is the greatest female figure skater of all time...
Brian Joubert is certainly not the greatest male figure skater of all time, he's just my sentimental favorite.
He was the FIRST figure skater that I was ever into and who made me consistently watch the sport for a while.

And I had a MAD mad crush on him.
Yuzuru Hanyu is obviously more talented than almost any other male figure skater you could ever bring up, but that is pure fact and nothing sentimental about it.
So for me, I can say he is top 3 greatest of all time, but it still doesn't make me feel the way Brian Joubert made me feel.
Yuzuru Hanyu is 4 years younger than me, but I feel like I'm looking at a high school kid when I look at him... and he's VERY graceful. Not the same kinda vibe as Brian Joubert at all.
So having said all that, I'm gonna post some CRAZY shit I found lastnight re: Yuzuru Hanyu.

So back in 2014, Yuzuru Hanyu and another figure skater CRASHED into each other on the ice...
Here's another view...
That shit is definitely not fake man. Yuzuru faceplanted into the ice... he was hurt bad.
Apparently he sprained his ankle and all kinds of shit, and had to go have surgery and stuff after this.
He STILL got out there and skated with his head and chin bandaged and his legs/ankles all fucked up or whatever...
Fucking unbelievable.
All I could think while watching this is that these figure skaters better get paid mad fucking money to go out there and do this shit...
I looked it up and supposedly Yuzuru Hanyu's made like 14 million or something... probably outdated figures, but there's really no way to know.
Since he's won the Olympics twice and has a ton of sponsorships, I should hope it's even more than that because... it's a fair bit of money, but he deserves that at least 3 times over.

I shudder to think about all the shit that guy's had to put up with for his entire career thusfar...
You know that just like every other sport and every other genre of entertainment, the figure skating industry's gotta be full of total fucking freako pervs.
I guarantee he has it worse than any of the figure skater chicks do because (aside from Oksana) you know they're all total fucking bitches... Yuzuru Hanyu, not so much.

So I looked up who's supposed to be the greatest female figure skater of all time, and supposedly it's this Michelle Kwan chick...
Highest paid of all time, apparently. Does that really mean best? Dunno. Prolly not. She won Olympic silver in 1998 and bronze in 2002, so I'll watch something from those eras.
Michelle Kwan - 1998 Olympics - Free Skate
She's great but I don't really dig the outfit.
Her jumps are great but there's too much emphasis on the finish, like an attempt is really being made to keep it together, and that really comes across.
It's not really holding my attention or making me feel anything...
It has to make me feel something.
I literally weep watching figure skating (if it's good and powerful) so if I feel nothing, meh, it's just not gonna be memorable for me.
She had a few effortless looking jumps, obviously she's great but... not memorable for me.

Here's a list of all figure skaters who have ever won the Olympics...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ol...re_skating
I'm only interested in the gold category.
This is what I should have looked up to begin with.

So Yuzuru Hanyu is the second dude to win the Olympic gold twice in a row, not surprising. The last guy was in 1952, Dick Button. Weird name. Wonder what his deal was?
As for chicks, Sonja Henie won gold 3 times in a row from 1928-1936.
Katarina Witt won twice, 1984-1988...
Katarina Witt - 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Games, Ladies' Short Program
Great outfit, total hottie, but I feel absolutely nothing.
Looking at this list really puts in perspective how rare it is to win that gold, man... gotta say. I'm so glad Oksana Baiul got her name up there, so deserved... she's such pure and total legend.
Let's check out Tara Lipinski, won in 1998...
Tara Lipinski - 1998 Nagano - Ladies' Free Skate
Gotta say, that is an absolutely baller costume.
She's definitely gorgeous AF.
Seems like I remember hearing her name at one time or another.
I feel nothing whatsoever watching this chick though.
1:32 she tore it the fuck up hard right there though, definitely amazing.
It's all purely technical greatness though, nothing that really inspires the feels... although she looks very happy which is nice.
Hmmm let's see, Sarah Hughes won in 2002, let's check her out. 2002 was a pretty whack year so I expect the Olympics will probably reflect that and be weird as fuck in an inexplicable sad/bad kinda way...

Oh she's great, I like how over-exposed the footage is, it makes her legs look super magical.
0:21 super nice, crazy epic jump, totally perfect.
0:53 one of the best and smoothest jumps ever.
Amazing body, definitely one of those born to be a dancer/skater types.
Elegant as fuck, adorbs too.
2:18 ripped it the fuck up, epicest of sauces.
3:04 crazy gorgeous. I still feel nothing though.

Shizuka Arakawa won in 2006.
Hmm, she looks like a foxy bitch, let's check her out...
Shizuka Arakawa - Olympics 2006 - FS
Uh oh, she's crazy gorgeous and she looks like she's about to fuck us up, I can dig it.
1:42 really lovely. No feels whatsoever, but really graceful.
Wonderful close and she's absolutely gorgeous, but I'm negative on the feels scale with this one... and most of the other ones, just feel absolutely nothing.

Yuna Kim won in 2010, she looks SUPER cute, let's see what's up...
Yuna Kim - Free Skate - Ladies' Figure Skating - Vancouver 2010
Her dress is crazy gorgeous but it looks a lot like the one Lipinski wore in 1998 up there.
0:55 oh I'm already lovin' this chick.
1:12 oh hell yeah, she's art on ice, easily the best out of all these other Olympic gold chicks besides Oksana.
1:33 crazy epic, hella badass.
1:47 leagues beyond perfect, great fuckin' music too.
2:54 oh baby yes.
4:23 legendary performer...
Damn near made me feel something.

Adelina Sotnikova won in 2014...
Gold Medal Winning Performance - Ladies' Figure Skating - Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics
Whooooa...
Damn.
Check out the Like/Dislike ratio on THIS video.
The fuck!?
People HATE this chick, LMAO! They say that she shouldn't have won and Yuna should have won??
But Yuna won in 2010 sooo...
Like yeah maybe she did deserve to win again in 2014, I dunno...
But these people in the comments are MAAAAAAD.
Wonder WTF they claim happened?
I can't really figure it out.
It's weird, people in the comments just seem to totally hate her.
Maybe it'll be apparent when I watch.
0:27 wait a damn minute, did that announcer lady just call her "Kim Yuna"??? What the complete and total fuck???
Wow, 2014 Olympics must have been some whackass shit!
1:10 it's a fairly unique performance so far, I don't really see a problem.
Seems pretty great to me. From what I can gather in the comments, they feel like somehow Adelina paid off the judges in some shape or form.
1:54 ya know, what I like about her jumps is that she's great at playing off the landings. Reminds me of Oksana in some ways.
4:45 I thought she was totally fucking amazing... I see absolutely no problem at all. From what I've determined by watching a lot of Oksana's performances on YouTube, there are A LOT of salty ass bitches up in these comments sections. I think that's all it boils down to.
Adelina Sotnikova's performance was absolutely amazing and that's really all there is to it.

Alina Zagitova won in 2018...
Alina Zagitova - Women's Free Skate - PyeongChang 2018
0:03 I really like the colors... the purple outlined in blue, and her outfit in the midst of it is really pretty. There's nothing crazy ugly or weird painted under the ice, all in all it's pleasing.
She looks really pretty.
0:14 kinda weird how she's hitting and touching and rubbing herself, but whatever, it's 2018, you gotta expect it to be weird and stupid.
0:27 uhhh, yeah, I already don't like this chick. LMAO.
I like the skirt portion of the outfit though, that's kinda different.
The gloves are a nice touch, it's cool.
Got me feelin' literally nothing on any level, but it's a nice performance I guess.
2:42 I gather this chick isn't the best jumper since there haven't been many so far in this performance. Hell wasn't that the first one? I'm not going back to check. I shouldn't have to ask.
3:38 that was a great set of jumps, not really sure what the fuck she was doing before.
I mean the sport wasn't as butchered as I would have expected it to be over the years, you know, the way everything in the entertainment sphere just gets degraded and turns into absolute trash.
Then again, this is the Olympics and I'm sure they have some kinda quality control and standard of class by default, so maybe this isn't a good judge of whether or not the sport has gone to shit.

Judging by the emergence of Yuzuru Hanyu in the past 6 or so years though, I'd say this segment of time has been a golden age of figure skating actually. I'd say that's probably the case. Probably the best it's been since like the late 80s, early-mid 90s. It was good for a patch there in like 2003-2004 too.

I feel like the 1994 Olympics was the best ever for figure skating.
