idk what happened in this thread and i can't be bothered to read most of it, but i fuckin love old 1980s videos of being in public places. it's amazing how things haven't changed that much... and yet have completely changed.

i've been finding myself having a lot of nostalgia for american things. pretty sure that means america is dead within the next handful of years.

The record store in the video is more like a present day vintage shop than the corporate record stores of the 80s. National chains like Tower, Sam Goody's, Camelot, Hasting's, and Rainbow were very common in malls and strip malls back then.

No it won't be dead...

It'll be a whacked out, sci-fi, psychonaut version of it.

The music will be really good though.

It's going to be a bumpy ride to get there, but it won't be destroyed.

It'll be prepared, probably for some of the greatest times in your life that you never thought possible before.

That's what we've been encouraging people to do all along, bruh.

Take control of your online presence. Run your own little corner of teh interwebz however you want.

Don't entrust it to corporations, or even sysops like MO. She doesn't give a moonlit balcony fuck what happens to your content.

It's all on you.

I do care minimally on an intellectual level but we've talked ad nauseam about how to do it and why to do it...

My philosophy is that if people don't locally save the material they share online (text posts, videos, photos, etc.) then they are totally fucking themselves.

People upload their vids to YouTube (for example) but they don't save them locally and then they lose the shit forever.

People depend on FB to store their pics.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stop.

Or the so-called "cloud" their phone network stores everything on.

Why would trust your data to something with a vague, ephemeral name like "cloud?" If you don't know exactly what server your data is on, you kinda deserve to get fucked.

Facepalm

Oh for sure...

"They" have some of their topmost agents working in the "cloud security" realm.
