In 1979, Stevie became pregnant with Don Henley's child, who she named Sara. It was one of at least 4 abortions that she had, but it's the most well known. Think about how famous that kid would have been... Don Henley and Stevie Nicks as your parents? Wow. Alas, here's what Stevie Nicks said about the abortion topic...

She wrote a song about it as well...

Pretty obvious references to the abortion in the song, especially the heartbeat part...
Tell me what the fuck that's supposed to mean if it's not about an abortion?? Get real.
Here's an interview where she confirmed the rumors about the aborted Don Henley pregnancy:

I think "Gypsy" is about the same type of situation, if not the same pregnancy with Henley's baby. If you look at the lyrics, it's pretty obvious what the hell that song is about...
The "velvet underground" is referencing a sex worker haven, and probably a drug den too. Probably some real life, well known place among famous people at the time. If you really think about the words, it's pretty obvious that at the time, Stevie was a prostitute there. That's basically what the song is saying.
The lyrics also clearly reference abortion of a female child...

If anybody needs that explained, I dunno what to tell ya. It's pretty damn fucking clear to me.
It's sad that some of the songs that I heard all the time growing up (and REALLY liked) have these kinds of stories behind them.
Quote:Nicks has said that she consciously chose not to have children of her own, due to her demanding career and desire to follow her art wherever it should take her: "My mission maybe wasn't to be a mom and a wife; maybe my particular mission was to write songs to make moms and wives feel better." Of her niece, godchildren, and extended family she says: "I have lots of kids. It's much more fun to be the crazy auntie than it is to be the mom, anyway."

Quote:There is a heartbeat and it never really died
All I ever wanted was to know that you were dreaming

Quote:And if I was a child
And the child was enough
For me to love
She is dancing away from you now
She was just a wish
And a memory is all that is left for you now
