She does look fucking amazing though.
It could be her very youthful appearance at this juncture that truly fuels the rumors, regardless of their substance. People are just suspicious and stumped by someone who goes through life without racking up all that much physical damage. I've seen "vampire" in the comments sections a lot, for years now. Of course she looks like an older version of herself, but she doesn't "feel" any different, she doesn't exude any sense of being worn down. And that's even after going through Lyme Disease and other shit we don't even know about. She's a resilient individual.
Everything is the same about young Avril vs. older Avril. The eyes (I'm talking on the 'windows to the soul' level too), the teeth, the nose (apart from likely a 'perfecting' rhinoplasty that made sure she still looked like herself), the lips, as well as the entire being is just the same. Any changes in physical attributes can be contributed to normal aging, or to the various cosmetic procedures that are commonplace in the industry.
As far as her autograph changing or her writing changing... well, autographs are something that really shouldn't change. As soon as somebody's starting to take off and become famous, they need to develop that specific autograph style and not deviate from it. As for the handwriting itself, I have at least 2 different styles of handwriting and it varies depending on my mood and other factors.

However, if you wanna take the "Melissa" thing another way, it could be she had a friend or distant family member with that name. It's also possible that the rumors were already swirling about a double when that photo was taken and they may have written that name on her hand (or made her do it) then taken the photos, whether Avril knew about the reference that was being made or not. Any publicity is good publicity and it could drum up more attention to feed into the conspiracy theory. I mean people are still talking about it 15 years later, hence this video. Just saying.

I'm gonna make a confession that Avril was my fucking jam back in 2002-2003. I was OBFUCKINGSESSSSSED. I loved her style, thought she was gorgeous, and vibed with a couple of her songs. Maybe over the years she's had some botox or some other industry standard procedures, but Avril started out so aesthetically on point, there was hardly anything that (in the industry's eyes) needed to be done in the first place. Pretty much everyone in the industry has a nosejob, but the rule of thumb is to keep their prominent features recognizable from the front. Slimming of the bulbous tip or wide bridge would have been done, while also trying to keep her nose recognizably hers. They actually did excellent work on her.
18:20 it's also common to do a blepharoplasty... I'd say it's as common as nose jobs, especially after the age of 30 or so. I doubt Avril will ever go overboard with any procedures though, it's all general maintenance and sculpt perfecting procedures, and again, they've been very well done. It's beautiful, minimal work that just perfects Avril's already stunning natural features for the camera.

Because she's such an incredible palette to begin with, it appears to have been very easy to keep her look fresh and achieve that 'everlasting youth' type of look. Trust me, this is what EVERY SINGLE CELEBRITY, EVER is going for when they get work done, and while they may come out looking great, they are never gonna be an Avril scenario. She won the genetic lottery right out of the gate and usually people don't start from such a perfect blueprint.

As for the smile, it's explained by basic cosmetic dentistry and great maintenance. Avril is a smiley chick for being so punky and this necessitates keeping those pearly whites in top notch condition. Overall teeth health is a feature of youth anyway, so it only makes sense that special attention would be paid to the teeth in order to maintain her signature youthful essence.
