A lot of them were willing to admit it, but others, like Ted Bundy, would never admit it even though it was obvious there was something wrong with that relationship/history.
It's definitely possible to profile the traits that would make a serial killer.
Seems like the recipes for disaster are overly sexualized mothers, single mothers, abusive mothers, absent fathers, abusive fathers, abuse of any kind in childhood, and of course a huge red flag is killing animals as children.
I wonder how much progress has really been made in profiling would-be killers, and conducting interviews with killers in prison in order to study their psychology.
I've long advocated for the psychoanalysis of all serial killers who are imprisoned, because how else can we as a society even justify keeping them alive?
Hopefully there are people devoting their lives/careers toward this end.
