Well, if it makes you feel any better, a lot of these actually exist in real fruit. There's just not enough of them to meet the demands of all the candy, soda, and other stuff that calls for them.
Also, natural vanilla is expensive as fuck. Have you seen the price of one stick of vanilla? I think it's like twelve bucks for a lonely stick of vanilla in a standard size spice bottle.

Wanna know what got this whole thread started?
Right before I posted this, I ate one of these:

Notice the box says "flavored." Not "artificially flavored" or "naturally flavored." Just "flavored." It definitely tasted like the usual artificial banana flavor in candy. I flipped the box over to read the ingredients list.
There's no mention of what kind of flavor it is, period.
This led me to wonder many things:
Which of the ingredients listed is responsible for the flavor?
Doesn't the government require them to say whether it's naturally or artificially flavored?
What exactly is artificial flavor?

Oddly enough, the box on Amazon does say it's both. The box I have is different.

Let's talk more about boxes.
For any given cream filled snack, the box shows at least twice as much filling as the product contains. The J.J.'s Bakery pies contain a good enough proportion of filling and crust to be satisfying though.
The cherry pie box says "made with real fruit" on front, and lists cherries and natural flavor as ingredients on back. Very strange that the banana cream pie makes no such statement.

Cats love boxes. My friend's cat slipped inside her Conex box while she was in there and got trapped inside for a couple of hours yesterday.
