It's got awareness that a typical cat shouldn't have and it's not happy about it.

Like it wants to be able to do something but it can't do it (whatever it is) and furthermore it doesn't even understand what it is that it wants to do.

It's like something there can't make a connection/bridge the gap, yet the desire still exists on subconscious level.
