This is the exact reason I love rest areas. The vibes are great and they just need to expand on the rest area concept...

More rest area locations, larger parking lots, free overnights, security and enforcement for paid long term stays (max 7 days).

Free camping on raw land isn't as fun or convenient as a parking lot.

When you're at a rest area, the cars next to you feel like your neighbors. You have this instant connection. Everyone is there to rest and just have a place to park it... nobody's looking to make friends, but nobody is hostile or out of place either (especially if security is tight).

It doesn't feel that way on BLM land or in a ntl. forest.

Security guards who are gonna work at the rest areas need to be shuffled around... they should relocate rest areas every 3 days or so. It'll stop them from feeling like they own the place and getting a complex. It's totally necessary to have security/enforcement, but we don't want them getting too big for their britches. They're there to make sure the place is safe, no weirdos fucking around, quiet hours are enforced, and people don't overstay their welcome.

I think there should be a rest area every 15-20 miles. The old school rest areas where you just stop for a pizzle or to stretch your legs can stay the way they are. But there should be shit tons more parking lots where people can do extended stays. Once they get full, security can direct any overflow to another rest area that should only be max like 30 minutes away. This will ensure traffic doesn't get noisy and out of hand at night.
