This thread maybe for some people....or no.
I learnd basic prepping things from my grandparents that grow up in the 20's, poor in small towns
They taught me about conserving food, repurposing different items, bartering and grow/ hunting food.
As for SHTF I believe I can and it will happen
I have my ono thought on both prepping/SHTF.
Would love to hear others thoughts on both
Skills? Preps? Bugin vs bugout?
What your thoughts are on what would cause a collapse of the world as we know it?
I've been into this for some time now. I'm no expert but I would love to try and answer questions.
At the same time learn from others.
As I said may be for some or my be for none

I always thought the Great Depression Cooking channel provided a pretty good perspective to learn from, educational type deal:
https://www.youtube.com/user/DepressionCooking
This site has pretty good general survival info:
http://www.wilderness-survival.net
I used to have a lot of survival info bookmarked. Too bad I can't find 'em.
Here's one of them I remember though:
http://www.happypreppers.com/index.html
Good site:
https://besurvival.com
Prepping and survival is super popular these days. Lots of info out there.
I tend to gravitate toward the raw info sites rather than the sites that are just capitalizing on the trend, such as these two are:
https://survivalcache.com/bug-out-bag/
http://realsurvivalist.com/best-bug-out-bag/
Can't blame them for trying to make a buck, but I like archives full of foundational info, not a bunch of product reviews.
Just my off the cuff contributions.
I think the massive crisis will come about when finally a brave group of seekers break out of this prison and climb up over the ice walls enclosing our oceans. Our dear fucking leaders will panic as their slave populations make a run for the border. I believe we are inside a giant terrerium and there are many more lands and worlds out past the ice walls. Trix taught me about this.

Thanks for making a prepping thread and posting links.
I like prepping and have a bugout bag ready, although I admit that I tend to stock up only when I think doom is imminent, like during the Ebola outbreak and more recently when I thought North Korea was going to nuke us.
I try to keep up on what I might need, but it does start to add up cost wise.
Besides the basics, I think what you need really depends on the type of doom. For example, I got a Geiger counter and another gas mask when I thought NK was going to nuke us this spring. And during Ebola I bought some Hazmat suits, face masks, eyewear, bleach and a lot of rubber gloves and duct tape, things like that.
Eventually I figure I'll be prepared for a lot of different "doom scenarios", but the most important thing I should do that I haven't is move away from a heavily populated area.
What the hellz yall motherfuckers worried about !

Oh I'm not worried Guest... I got over that kinda stuff years ago.
Big difference between being prepared (common sense), and being obsessive about survival.

I feel like living in a van would be great prep and help you stay one step ahead because you'd already learn to live with less and more off the land and in tune with the natural environment around you.
Plus, you could literally bug out anywhere for awhile, as long as you have access to gas.
Again, it just depends on what kind of doom you are talking about.

What could possibly go wrong? We are trapped on a rock spinning around in the middle of a universe that we know nothing about with other territorial, chimp-like creatures that threaten to bomb and destroy each other over dwindling resources and religions, narrowly dodging flying space objects.
At the very least, we are due for a pandemic of some kind to cull the growing population since we have no natural predators.
I don't worry about it, but history suggests that things won't run this smoothly forever. I see it as just being practical and realistic.

When I hear the term prepper I generally think of it as a marketing or targeting word. Some gear and supplies are of course necessary but of course what got popular was a mentality of throw money at a problem. If by any chance you have a young boy, perhaps the boy scout / cub scout books to learn. It's kind of like when the recycling programs were cropping up, young people talking to older people like something new had been discovered wise, when the reality is repurpose is much more efficient & effective than recycling.
If you're into having 'prep' food packages be sure to keep the expiration date in your mind so that you can donate it while its still viable and not expired, heard its tax deductible

Yes I got the Potassium Iodide tablets this spring too. I didn't have them before, but after that nuclear missile false alarm text message in Hawaii it really freaked everyone out. I doubt they would help in that situation, but you never know
