threadly reminder about how nuclear power plant safety measures work:

control rods are used to prevent criticality and control the reaction. there are a couple dozen or so [usually] of these with only a few of them lowered into the reaction chamber at a time. they get used up and then need to be replaced. these control rods are not held down IN the chamber, they are held OUT of [above] the chamber via electromagnets. should the plant lose power, these rods are no longer held up electromagnetically and thus ALL of the control rods slam down into the chamber and stop the reaction.

so, if a plant loses power, it doesn't just blow up on its own.
