I just fell down the vintage MRE rabbithole with Steve1989MREInfo...
Make a fishloaf, like a meatloaf.

You could, but it's good to have a more crispy finish around the edges, so it helps if the fish cakes are smaller and pretty flat. The edges are what make it so good and I think there's less opportunity to enjoy the edges if it's baked in loaf form. Loaf only gives you that crispy crust on one side, the top. For beef, that's fine, but for fish or other types of meat it's probably not as good.

LOL
If you don't like the taste of fish as it is, a piece of fucking fish.
Then don't eat Fish innit? Shit I pick it up out of the sea and eat it raw I like the taste of the sea.

This is one of Steve's first videos, where it all began... adorable.

So "MRE Info" is a community website for MRE nerds. I can't go to their site right now because it gives me a warning saying the certificate has expired. That's sorta ghetto, they should fix it.

Apparently they've even had meet ups for years, getting together to share rare MREs and geek out over other such memorabilia.

Seems that several of the members started their own YouTube channels, Steve's shouted them out in many of his early videos...

But only one of them rose to the heights of MRE fame...

Steve: The Beautiful One.

4:20 I love it when he rattles off a bunch of information... I guess he's reading it, but it's not mega obvious. He's really good at this. The history is interesting.

It's such a weird niche... like it's not THAT weird, but it is definitely quirky. It's just amazing there's basically a community out there for every interest.

MREs do have a certain mystery about them. When I was a kid, we tried out some vintage MREs, dunno when they were from. I think they were from the '90s, I don't think they were really all that old. The heater was the part I found most intriguing.

Can't recall what the menu was... I think maybe there was some chicken involved. Or maybe some noodles. But I kinda remember tomato sauce too. Wish I could remember now that I know what a baller niche MREs are. People clearly love this shit!

I dig it, it's fun.

I've had a few newer MREs too, but haven't had one in a hella long time. I think freeze dried food is a lot better.

Steve kinda reminds me of myself in some ways. It's vague... sure.

20:00 so he admits he's been sick a ton of times from eating this stuff, especially in the early days of his MRE obsession. This is definitely some kinda mental illness, but I just wonder what the origin is.

1:16 you can see his reflection and the camera in the packaging, that's hot.

4:47 OMG he mentioned seeing a reflection in the cookie... that's so weird.

I gotta stop watching these videos... every time I see one of these ancient cookies, it makes me want a cookie so bad.

12:32 I understand why people call him the Bob Ross of MREs.

1:59 you can tell Steve isn't impressed.

2:26 I personally don't like the pull tab cans because there's typically no hiss to speak of. I think the hiss is very important in determining the integrity of the canned food, especially if it's old or dented.

8:17 TBH, I love peas so I'd probably love this.

8:58 that could use some sauce... for real. It looks pretty filling though. It's a healthy meal for sure.

10:48 he's basically saying everything I've said about it. I'm a fan of the Mediterranean diet. This is straight Greek though, they have their own ways.

14:40 the mains on this one are incredible health-wise, but you better be willing to live a sauceless life.
