Those figs don't look ripe. I like them purple and ready to burst.

If you don't get fig guts all over your hands and face when you eat them, you need to leave them on the bush a little longer.

What kinda bothers me is that it's really not enough to just abbreviate to '70s for example...
We really have to start denoting WHICH CENTURY we're talking about because things are lasting a lot longer. Like I was reading Col. Sanders' 1970s drivers license that you posted the other day, and his b-day read 09-09-90, and it was referencing 1890. Cuz at that time, in the 1970s, the 1990s was still off in the future, so if you said '90, people just assumed you meant the fucking EIGHTEEN HUNDREDDSSSS. It's time that we clarify, cuz we just dunno how long this shit we're typing here is really gonna be around, where it's been saved, and how long those databases will exist. I have my site saved locally obviously, but bots have been indexing the entire internet and you gotta assume whatever you share is gonna be saved in some database somewhere, and God only knows how long it's gonna persist.

You can call it "Tie Dye 70's" or "Hippie 70's" or "Bell Bottoms 70's".

Some people still write the two digit year, believe it or not. It shows a total lack of historical perspective.

I fixed some Mexican mangoes today.
Two cans of diced mangoes in heavy syrup. About a cup or so of dark brown sugar. I didn't measure it. You can leave it out if you want since the syrup in the mangoes is sweet. I wanted a natural sugar flavor, not just corn syrup sweet. A teaspoon each of onion powder, garlic powder, and chili powder. A half teaspoon each of cayenne pepper and cumin. Let it simmer for awhile on low heat, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.
Oh. My. Ffkkkkkkkkk.
WUT!?!??!

Oh, it'll clear your sinuses already. I'm gonna puree that shit and bottle it.

It comes together very nicely when refrigerated overnight. f you eat it soon after cooking, the spices are overwhelming. Once it gets cold and gels, the sweetness predominates. One of the roomies, who likes to cook Mexican food, is gonna use the rest of this batch as a topping for chicken. I think it would make a good glaze for smoking baby back ribs. I usually use Concorde grape juice in my glaze, but just about any sweet fruit will work, really.

That sounds delicious... all that sorta orangey colored fruit goes super well with chicken.

Yeah, I've tried marinating chicken in Sunny D before. Didn't let it soak long enough. You have to marinate yardbird a long ass time for it to take any flavoring.
If it were me, I'd just bake the chicken covered in the mango sauce. It has about the consistency of marmalade when chilled. I'm gonna try it on ribs smoked with apple wood sometime too.

Marinade's gotta be hella acidic to penetrate poultry and it has to soak for way too long.
I generally never marinade anything. |
