"How do you know she's a witch?
She looks like one."

Most people don't run into the post limit because you have an Upgraded Account...

That's the entire point of an upgraded account.

You can have a signature line, custom member title, higher post limit, etc.

There aren't many non-upgraded members who post because most people have been here since the beginning.

For the first few years, I gave everyone an upgrade, so you're grandfathered in.

Upgraded Members have a post limit, but no sane person would ever hit it in a 24 hour period.

Dan only keeps hitting his because he's a new (non-upgraded) member and WE DON'T GET TOO MANY OF THEM AROUND THESE PARTS?@??!?!?1

I thought about bringing the PM system back as a perk of an upgraded account but...

I just don't think I can trust you sinners to talk to each other in private on my website.

I've been meaning to go over all the functions of the site just to maximize what benefits an upgraded account gets.

There has to be a lot of fun stuff (at least if you're a forum dork like me) that could be offered.

Well the beauty of it is, you don't know what the limit is.

And I guarantee you couldn't hit it.

But the thing is, if you did, I'd just lower the limit.

Lolz!

I don't want Fungus creeping up in my DMs anyway. lol

Or I'd put you in your own category with like a daily post limit of 5.

There are all kinds of devious things I can do to you, user328.

Fucking exactly.

And back in the day, Fungus had an Upgraded Account fair and square because he purchased from the store...

Then he proceeded to absolutely royally fuck that whole situation up beyond belief, and you see where he is now.

Forever in the dog house...

Doghouse

Could you waive moderator approval for edited posts by upgraded members? I only edit to fix typos. Other than that, I stand by everything I post. I just hate misspelling words.

It's easy to say check your post for mistakes before you send it, but I'll swear and be damned all of my posts look correct before I send them. I only notice the typos after I post.

If you want to deprive yourself of my sheer brilliance to that extent, then you go right ahead, MO.

Yeah I hear you on how that would be a good idea and stuff but the thing is...

I don't trust anybody.

I like you, but I don't trust anyone.

I've seen what people can do on a forum that doesn't have enough control of anonymous posts, post edits, and all other types of chaotic shit that is a remnant of ~2002...

It ain't 2002 anymore and unfortunately, you gotta go to all kinds of extents to keep your community safe.

It'd make a lot more sense if this was a much bigger site (and there would need to be a lot of mods to handle those post approval needs) but it's not.

It's set up as if it were, but alas it's a wee tiny little thing.

And I prefer it that way.

I understand where you're coming from. I can't imagine what someone like myself or Dark Dick or SEIH might do in a post edit to fuck things up though.

Lol, listen you don't have to go rattling off a list of LITERALLY THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO EVER COME HERE just to try and make me feel all guilty...

We're gonna have to settle this situation between us next Friday...

Ohyeah

The idea behind a post limit and the edit approval requirement has a little more logic behind it on my part than just paranoia though.

I'm not gonna go into all my reasons, but I assure you that I do have them.

Ultimately, this is the reason WHY we should ALL have our own websites, and run them the way we see fit.

Maybe I should add into the registration/membership agreement a blurb/mini sermon about the importance of having your own website in case you don't like the way I run mine...

hmmm

Because I want people to know right from the get-go that my belief is that you should never spend your time on someone else's site, contributing your original thoughts/opinions etc. to someone else's database.

Cuz you have no control.

Cuz they may not value it.

Cuz you may not be saving your work locally so that you can always have something to SHOW for that time you spent on someone else's site.

These are all things I learned the hard/sad way (for me) and I just don't ever want it happening to anyone else.

I'm not trying to guilt you into anything. lol

I respect your judgment.

I agree that the sysop should be the sole and final authority on their own site. That's the way it has always worked.

I can't even fault corporate media for being nazi admins on their own sites. I keep telling the whiners exactly what we've been telling everyone here about making their own website. But nooooooo. Anything but that.

Thanks for valuing my thoughts. That is very nice of you.
