WARNING: SPOILERS. HAPPENING. BELOW. DON'T READ IT IF YOU DON'T ALREADY KNOW.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dexter_(TV_series)
Let me just proceed to keep it real...
I am FUCKINGGGGGG OBSESSSSSSEDDDDD with this show.
As wildly popular as it was back in the day, I never watched it until a couple months ago.
I had never seen even so much as ONE SINGLE CLIP of this show, which is crazy because at one point in time, it was just EVERYWHERE.
Pretty sure it was the first TV show that ever portrayed a serial killer to be a likable kinda guy, it was groundbreaking for what it was.
Now of course we all know Dexter kills according to a code, and if you're not a bad guy and you don't fit the code, you're usually safe.
Those are the basics.
But there are some weird tie-ins that I am gonna make on this thread...
I've had a couple weird experiences over the course of more than a decade that lead DIRECTLY back to this show. It was only after watching it for the first time that I actually understood these things I'm gonna talk about later.
I have already watched the entire show, all original 8 seasons, New Blood (season 9) and now Resurrection (season 10) up to episode 6, cuz it's still airing at the time of posting.
And of course it's too bad that I didn't review/commentate WHILE I was watching it initially, but...
There are reasons for that. First off, I watched it while I was multi-tasking. I was doing a bunch of other stuff at the same time, and I actually watched the show on like 1.7x speed the first time.
So I'm not saying I won't ever review each episode from the start, I might. It's pretty damn unlikely, but I guess you never know.
I'm just gonna pick up from the new episodes that are airing now and go from there. I might give a brief summary of prior seasons and share my thoughts on them.
It's not the way I prefer to do things, but it's gonna have to suffice cuz there really is SO FUCKING MUCH I wanna say about this show.

Oh shit, look at that, I forgot to mention "Original Sin"...

Maybe because I don't give a FUCK about it whatsofuckingever.
I have watched season 1, and by watched, I mean on 2x speed skipped through the entire fucking thing because I think it's whack and I don't understand why the fuck they even made it.
Other than for flashback footage whenever the REAL Dexter has to recount past events in the new season of REAL Dexter.
I think the actor portraying Dexter in Original Sin is great, it's cool that they have Christian Slater playing Harry, but if it wasn't for the narration by Michael C. Hall (the REAL Dexter), the show would be an absolute wash as far as I'm concerned.

If Michael C. Hall isn't playing Dexter, it's not fucking Dexter. I dunno why that's hard to understand.

And yeah, let's just address the elephant in the room...
The only reason I REALLY like Dexter is because Michael C. Hall (from this point forward to be referred to as MCH) is hot as fuck.

If he'd been fugly, Dexter never would have been a popular TV show.
He was all it ever had going for it. Period. His looks, his acting, everything about the fucking guy.
That's it.
The same is still true today no matter what the fuck they try.

So yeah, I thought Original Sin was balls. It just felt corny, and not in a good way like the original series.
They can go ahead and cancel that shit. They need to put all their funds into the main show.
But they were lucky people seemed to like Original Sin as much as they apparently do...
If it had flopped, they never would have been able to give us SEASON FUCKING TEN, AKA RESURRECTION.
I'll get to that.

Guarantee OG Sin's main audience is 99% sheeple and people under the age of 18.
AKA people who don't matter.
But let me just get serious here...
I got some shit to say.

So let me just go ahead and rate Dexter by my personal favorite seasons...
1. Season 10
2. Season 9
3. Season 1
4. Season 5
Now that we got that out of the way, I'll do a season by season breakdown of the show...
Season 1: Iconic. We meet Dexter for the first time, we like him immediately, we get to meet the brother he didn't even know he had, then things end tragically as usual. 10/10 stars.
Season 2: Literally don't even remember. Let me look it up. Ohhh, shit! Hell yeah, this was the season with Lila, the "gross English titty vampire" and she and Dexter have a bunch of low key BDSM sex which is my absolute favorite and it was SO GREAT to see Dexter that way. Great season, 9/10 stars.
Season 3: This was the "Miguel" season, and it was absolutely not among my favorites, though it wasn't the worst by a long shot. Jimmy Smits is a great actor. Overall decent season, I give it 7/10 stars.
Season 4: The iconic "Trinity Killer" season. John Lithgow, total master of the acting arts, great season, 8/10 stars.
Season 5: The "Lumen" season. Julia Stiles was great in her guest role. She and Dexter did eventually do some pretty bomb fuckin' too, so I appreciate that. Lumen was his best love interest ever. Great season, 10/10 stars.
Season 6: Oh man. Dear God. By far my least favorite season of the entire show. I gotta put this one in league with Original Sin. And the real kicker is I LOVE Edward James Olmos. That guy is so hot, such a great actor. But this role was such a waste of potential. Least favorite "big bad" in any season ever. I skip through every single scene of him and his obnoxious crazy sidekick dude. The only good thing about season 6 was Brother Sam, and the fact that Debra finds out Dexter's secret. 4/10 stars.
Season 7: Gotta look it up, no idea. Oh God, this was the first season in which Hannah appeared. Can't stand Hannah, she totally sucks, like almost all of Dexter's other love interests. Pretty bomb sex though. 4/10 stars.
Season 8: I thought this season was decent, I really didn't mind the whole psychiatrist thing being brought into play. It was actually pretty brilliant, but most people disagree. Wholly underwhelming "big bad" though, he sucked. Not memorable at all. The Zach character was a huge missed opportunity for the series IMO, total waste. And of course the season 8 finale, the last episode of the original show, was an absolute fucking disaster that was regrettable on basically every level. 4/10 stars.
Season 9, AKA New Blood: Totally epic on every level, completely loved every second of it, 10/10 stars.
Season 10, AKA Resurrection: Greatest season of the show by days and miles. Superb is not a strong enough word, 11 out of 10 stars, masterpiece. Of course, we've only seen 6 of the 10 episodes so far, they COULD still fuck it up. But I feel like they've surely learned their lesson from the last 2 times they've tried to end the show and failed.
It is beyond insane that Dexter debuted almost TWENTY YEARS AGO, and its newest season is THE GREATEST in the history of the show. Just phenomenal.
Summary:
Dexter: Resurrection = 11/10 stars.
Dexter: New Blood = 10/10 stars.

Alright so wrapping up my thoughts on the original series run...
Let's address Dexter's main love interest: Rita.
There are 2 kinds of people...
Those who were sad when Rita died, and those who were glad when Rita died.
I am one of those people who were SOOOOOO FUCKING GLAD WHEN RITA DIED, OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lmfao.
Literally, I was like halfway through season 1 when I Googled whether or not Rita ever gets killed off.
It was tough getting through the show til that point, and honestly, some of the best days of the OG series were way the fuck behind it by the time she died.
But damn was I ever glad.
Listen, I LIKED Rita in the first few episodes of the first season. She was shy and innocent, and she was sex averse just like Dexter was when the show first started, and I could RELATE TO THAT.
I loved how Dexter was kinda just asexual at the start of the show, and I was sorta sad when they broke the ice on that shit and him and Rita started getting busy. I felt like something was lost.
Then he FUCKING MARRIES RITA?? And they have a KID!?!?! Agh, my God, you wanna talk about NOT RELATABLE AT ALL for me. It was terrible. There were times when I thought I might have to just abandon the show and not even finish it.
But I pushed through, and ultimately I'm glad I did. I enjoyed the original series.
Nothing beats New Blood though, and certainly nothing beats Resurrection.
Dexter in his 50s is even hotter than he was in his 30s during the original show in my opinion. I dunno, it's giving daddy vibes and that turns me the fuck on, which is weird cuz I'm really not into that daddy shit.
But he just does it so well. I love it when Dexter is in dad mode, and even though Harrison has been totally fucking annoying since basically day 1, things are getting better in Resurrection and I'm loving their relationship now.
So yeah...
Tonight's the night.
I expect S10 E7 to be entirely lit. I expect it to be fucking off the rails. I dunno why I have the feeling it will be, but I totally do.

Resurrection's highest rated episode (E4) so far was 9.7, and right now it is the #2 most popular show (right behind "Wednesday" lmao) and #29 highest rated show of all time on IMDb...

The shit is crazy.

Now for the connection between Mr. Robot and Dexter...
Ghost dads.
Yup, you heard me right.
Ghost dads who function as your conscience on some level...
Your protector, your common sense, and your advisor.
And of course Christian Slater was in Mr. Robot, but he's also Harry in Original Sin.
So this shit is not a coincidence.
But what's REALLY weird...
Michael C. Hall starred in "Six Feet Under" (2001) where his GHOST DAD sometimes made appearances.
What the fuck.
So the link isn't Christian Slater, or even Dexter...
It's MCH.
I haven't looked into whether the "ghost dad" thing was a trope before this.
It probably was. But as far as the Dexterverse is concerned, it dates back to 2001 with MCH in Six Feet Under.

BTW, I tried to watch Six Feet Under but I couldn't get into it. Granted I only watched the first episode, but it was truly not my shit at all. I found every single character (including MCH's) to be remarkably unlikable. It's a no from me. I'm sure it's a great show for other people though.
