Seriously, "Who's Crying Now" goes to show that Arnel IS singing his own style.
It just happens to...
Sound exactly like Steve Perry only IMO, I like Arnel even more.

So there really aren't very many uploads of Arnel singing "Still They Ride"... they're all like camera in the audience uploads.
But I found this guy (E5C4P3), whose thing is apparently singing this specific song, LMAO!
Same deal with these guys though, it's all camera in the audience uploads.
I guess it's sort of a typical coverband type deal, so they do Journey.
He's still no match for Arnel, but on this song, he might just win.
I get the impression there are SOME Journey songs Arnel is not totally wild about singing.
I don't blame him.

Singing any Journey song is an astronomically tall order.

Deen Castronovo is singing this version...
I've seen a lot of people saying they prefer his version even above Steve's.
I prefer the original...
But I do think Deen performs it live best of all.

My mom went through a hardcore Journey obsession some years back, and it's safe to say she is definitely Team Steve.
But she was showing me Arnel videos and we were tripping out hard about it back then...
So I DID know about Arnel and how amazing he is...
But I only just now sort of went down the rabbit hole to truly explore this stunning phenomenon.

They were freakishly similar! It was cray to the zee.

He's not bad... but I think his voice is too high.
2:27 despite it being a tad too high, he performs this song amazingly, there's definitely no saying he sucks or anything.
It's just...
He's no Steve, and he's definitely no Arnel.
And the thing is, that's exactly what makes this thing so crazy. How could anybody be? Yet, Arnel exists.

2:25 I've seen a lot of commenters point out that Steve never hit those high notes on live versions of "Open Arms" and it seems like they were right.
1:00 he comes close in this one.
1:00 yeah he does some type of variation of it.
He's smart... he knows what he can do and what he shouldn't.
That's why he left Journey... cuz he has damn good judgement.
There was no reason to push it and drag the band into this elderly golden years feel, running on less steam and whatnot.
You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.
For anybody who is that vocally powerful to stay the same into their 50s just sort of rare.
Steve is iconic.
