Journey: The Supernatural God Level Gift That Is Arnel Pineda
#61
Oh I forgot about this one...

2:50 Arnel nails it, of course.

IMO he doesn't sing it like Steve at all...

He pretty much just did his own thing on it, which furthers my theory that he really is just singing in his own style.

I mean, if Arnel just naturally jives THAT fucking hard with Steve's essence, who are we to judge?

It's just destiny, folks.

4:27 smashed.

Totally owned.

I don't even like sappy lovesongs... at all.

But I guess Journey gets a free pass because of the musical/vocal excellence.

Check out the weirdly salty top comment on this video...

Comment Wrote:Journey is abusing Arnel’s voice till it’s gone, it’s too sad they’re milking his talent.

I left this comment:

Reply Wrote:Arnel is in his 50s... you can't go on forever, and you can't live forever. He has given the world a massive gift and touched countless hearts. There's absolutely nothing he should have done differently, and the band adores this man on a personal level.

I mean come on...

Some people don't even live to 50.

If you've got it, use it...

End of story.

Even if he does wear out, at least he was the frontman of one of the greatest bands of all time for over a decade.

Considering how hard it is to make life worth fuck all even with a good effort, I'd say he hasn't done half bad.

Everybody's saying he's tired, fucked up, needs a rest, etc.

Looks like being one of the greatest singers ever is about as thankless a job as parenting.

I mean, look at the guy...

He looks great.

He's fit, still energetic, seems healthy.

Dudes over 50 in some of the comments are chiming in talking about how you slow down around that age, and give the man a break FFS, etc.

People just expect these performers to be superhuman or something.

I'm sure he's made enough money in the past ~13 years to never have to work again anyway. He'll be fine in that regard.

But...

I could see Arnel getting mad if he really does find his vocal prowess isn't on par with the past.

That could be upsetting for him on a personal level.

I'm sure Steve understands Arnel's position better than anybody else ever could.

Undoubtedly, Steve figured it would happen to Arnel because it happened to him.

Jonathan is 70 years old... it's not like the rest of them have too much time on stage left in 'em either.

They got an extra ~15 years of life out of Journey thanks to Arnel.

I think they should all hang up their hats if Arnel can't sing to par anymore.

If they replace him with someone else, they're just gonna look ridiculous within 5 years or so.

Nobody wants to see those old dudes wheeled out, on stage with their walkers and shit.

It's been a great run, but without Arnel, I'd really say fuck it.

I'm sure if the band could be candid about it, they'd say that performing with Arnel has been the greatest honor and pleasure of their career...

These years with him were probably some of the best in their entire lives.

I have no doubt about that.

There's something to be said for bowing out gracefully.

When Steve left the band, they were all much younger.

It did make sense on a lot of levels for them to try and go on.

But now? They're legitimately elderly.

Now, it doesn't make sense to go on.

Leave it on a high note...

Journey is too epic a band to let things drag on and get sad.

Journey won't end. They'll keep replacing members as they quit or die off forever.

2:08 he sounds great...

I feel like he can sing basically any oldies song there is.

Journey songs are such a tall order vocally...

It's like he got all the hardest shit out of the way first and now he's gonna move on to blowing away all the normal shit.

If they replace all the members, it's not Journey anymore... LMAO.

That's like saying I'mma die and then somebody is gonna come and replace me...

Like literally come and resume where my life left off, assume my name and identity, etc.

Come on. Like yeah I'm sure they may attempt it, but it's not Journey.

It wouldn't be Journey any more than a Beatles coverband is the Beatles.

*cough* Sepultura *cough*

And Yes, that made me sad!
Max & Igor MADE that band. Without them, it's a cover/tribute band AT BEST!

Neal Schon is the only original member left. Journey has been like 80% not the "real" Journey for decades.
