Journey: The Supernatural God Level Gift That Is Arnel Pineda

If they've been in the band for 40 fucking years, they're essentially original members.

The first good Journey album was in 1978...

Smack me.

Go ahead.

SMACK ME YO.

Don't nobody know any of those pre-1978 Journey songs.

EXCEPT for you.

So you're OG, props.

Fine.

But if they've been in the band since the '80s, they're an original member just as much as Steve Perry is the one who drove them to the height of legend.

And without Neal Schon, continuing on is a joke anyway.

No one can play like him.

What if the guitar wizard who replaces Neal Schon is in the band for 40 years?

What if he's in the band for 50 years, longer than Neal Schon himself?

WHAT THEN???

Sigh...

I can't argue with that.

First, I must admit I've never really been a Journey fan. However I always saw them
as a good, solid rock band. Now, in spite of my big sister's CONSTANT whole-album-repeat
on a daily basis when I was little, I did actually listen to "Open Arms" today and I will
go on record as saying: It's not as bad as I remember, lol.

If it's Journey though, I gotta say, this one has always been more my speed:

Aaaaand it ALWAYS makes me want fucking onion rings! lol
If you get that reference, we can TOTALLY be friends!! ; )

Dude you gotta listen to Arnel's 2016 version of Open Arms.

I was kinda surprised how much I've come to like the song, even lyrically. It's... kinda beautiful man. It is.

Remember when Jim Carrey had "Separate Ways" as a ringtone for this dude who kept calling him every 5 minutes and he was trying to avoid him?

I had to look it up. I've never seen that show. We can still be pals though, right?

I probably shouldn't admit this publicly, lol, but I've seen it [all 86 episodes]
35 times. Yes, the ENTIRE series. Thirty-five times.

Shhhhh, it's normal, it's totally normal...

I'm not knocking you for it. I just don't watch TV anymore.

I watched the first 15 minutes of Breaking Bad and was bored out of my mind.

The last show I made a concerted effort to watch was Halt and Catch Fire. I soured on that in the second season when they gratuitously decided to make the lead character bisexual.

I mean don't set me up with a womanizing alpha male character in the first season and suddenly have him locking lips with another dude in the next.

I guess it would've been fine if he'd been bisexual from the start.

But the way they sprang it on me out of left field, apparently for the shock value, was just shitty.

My Sacred Two-sided Coin of television/cinema has always been:

Tied for First:

1) The Sopranos
2) Breaking Bad [currently on my 12th rewatch]

I haven't been a fan of TV for a long time either but when a show [to me] hits
EVERY high note and then some, I have to take notice. Breaking Bad is a slow-burn
for sure, but it was just one of those shows that came along and I knew it was for me.

The writing, acting, photography, everything is just A+ level game-bringing and it shows!
Not everybody's cup of Joe but it's a big ol' world. Something for everyone. : )
