The reason Raised on Radio sounded so different from all of their previous records with Steve was that Steve and Jonathan Cain were convinced that synthesizers would replace the electric guitar as the dominant sound of rock music.

You can hear his voice beginning to change on his 1984 solo album.

I think it was actually Eddie who legitimized synths in hard rock on 1984. A lot of purists wouldn't accept them at all before that.

That album cover, man...
One of the most hard rock fucking album covers ever, LMAO.
I remember that sitting on the CD shelf when I was a little kid.

Quote:Pineda is a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump and met him at the White House in 2017, along with two other members of Journey, Jonathan Cain and Ross Valory.

I never even understood the lyrics before...
I talk about that here:

When Arnel sings these songs, I understand every word.
I never even knew the lyrics in "Still They Ride" (my favorite Journey song) said "on wheels of fire" until I was listening to an Arnel version lastnight.

LMFAO look at that big ol' grin from Jonathan (my second favorite Journey member) at the very beginning of this video...
ROFL he's like "Yuuuup. We've got Arnel."

Dude it's like Arnel's voice got EVEN BETTER WITH THE YEARS.
How the fuck. HOW!?
I've only seen this happen like one other time...
Billy Corgan's voice got better with age and he was at his absolute height when I saw him in Nashville in 2017.
They're both the same age too.

1:52 I love Arnel's openness when he's performing... the way he keeps his arms open. His heart is open. It's just really beautiful man. Gets me right in the feels.

The reason "Still They Ride" is my favorite Journey song is not just because of Steve's vocal feats, it's also the iconic guitar work by Neal that makes it so great. Just the whole song is pure excellence, it totally encompasses the legend that is Journey.
And I don't think Arnel is able to sing that song adequately enough to keep it as a mainstay in their new performances.
Which is fine... let's be honest, it's one of the few songs that he can't swing. It's not a big deal.

Another reason I love "Still They Ride" is because it's sort of an ode to highway culture... classic Americana.
You guys know I love roadtrips, and just driving in general... the open road is what America is truly all about.
Classic rock encompasses the American roadtrip dream, and Journey is no exception.

This is the one Journey song that I just don't think Steve can be beat on, in my opinion as an Arnel obsessor.
He performs it with a lot of emotion and conviction...
1:37 fucking legend, my friends.
2:53 they all perform it with a lot of passion.
This song fucks me up, y'all.
