Yeah, when Elon is laying off the brainwashing a little bit, he'll admit that the best he can personally hope for is to maybe get sent to die on Mars when he's super elderly.
He knows this shit isn't gonna happen for another few hundred years, and still won't really be doable at that.
He thinks nuking each pole on Mars is gonna cause successful terraforming. He admits that people will have to live in glass domes before the 'atmosphere' gets nuked (in order to create one).
He knows the truth deep down inside.
I do believe that Elon could successfully advance manned local space travel into the 'frequent' category during his lifetime.
But I've never been a fan of colonizing other planets as it's quite obvious that the whole process would be extremely difficult and ultimately futile.
Space mining is about all we'll ever be able to do. Maybe have some colonies in orbit (rather dangerous in its own way, not to mention an eyesore)...
The focus should really be on short term manned missions (single, or very small crew) that go out and mine asteroids and the moon and other shit like that, and then come back.
We need a vehicle that starts from the ground and goes into space, and is able to fly around doing various missions in space.
That's what Elon needs to be focusing on. Creating single or small crew vehicles with mining apparatus controllable from within the craft, via controls and with the option of robotic arms.
