If Elon was really concerned with propagating humanity into the stars, he'd be seeding planets with humans in pods that only activate if the planet becomes inhabitable after thousands of years.
Regardless, I think the main idea isn't to save the human animal, but to preserve its information. We should put time capsules in orbit or drop them on other planets/celestial bodies so that if alien life ever finds it, they can see who we were.
TBH, that's about the best you can hope for. And to do it outside of the solar system would be ideal. We already know there's a dense invisible 'wall' that you start to run into at the edges of the solar system, there's no getting beyond it. All you can do is send radio signals, and that can only ever be digital information.
The only way to communicate beyond the solar system is through light... there's no way to physically travel out of the solar system because other stars form different types of particles than our solar system. We would fall apart on a particle level (as biological life) if we were exposed to another star system.
It's been alleged that we could inhabit favorable planets in other star systems that are "similar" to our Sun... but, sorry, no. That's just false.
That's why there are no aliens flying around out there. Space suits are all good in your own solar system... in another solar system, they would probably disintegrate upon contact with a foreign sun. For biological life, it would be instant. For other types of materials, maybe they could last longer before disintegrating... but that's about it. They may melt more slowly. Rofl. Or they may even look like undefined blobs while they're coming apart on a particle level.
The best we can try to do is to preserve information... aim to last under the right conditions indefinitely.

China doesn't allow dual citizenship, but Russia does.
